The New Parent
One of you gets up. The other doesn't feel it.
Springs carry movement across a bed. A foam core does not. The New Parent is built on a 10 cm reflex core with micro-springs and 5 cm of 60 kg memory foam on top, so when one of you gets up for the fourth time, the other one carries on sleeping.
The edge is a 50 kg firm rail, because you will be sitting on it to feed, and the cover zips off and goes in the machine at 40 degrees, because things happen.
Who this chapter is for
- Expecting, or already in it, with a bedside crib and a partner who works in the morning.
- Light sleepers and shift workers who feel every turn their partner makes on a sprung bed.
- Anyone who has ever sat on the edge of the bed at 3 am and felt the whole mattress tip.

What it feels like, and who it suits.
No showroom, so we tell you everything a showroom would. If the feel is wrong after 30 nights, we swap it.
This chapter is 6 out of 10 on our scale, where 10 is a board. The dashed band, 6 to 7.5, is where most people sleep best.

Up to about 16 stone per person.
Platform-top divan or close slats (no more than 7 cm). The foam core suits a solid top well.
Standard fitted sheets fit (25 cm). The cover zips off and washes at 40 °C.
The quietest bed we make: a foam core carries almost no movement across the bed.
Rotate head to toe every three months in the first year, then twice a year. Use a breathable protector. Never fold it. It is one-sided: do not flip it.
Roughly 29 to 34 kg in a double. Our two-person team carries it in; you never lift it.
Every layer, by density.
This is the spec sheet the factory works to. If a layer is not listed here, it is not in the mattress. The cutaway is drawn from the spec, to scale, and the same scale is used for every chapter.
Read top (sleep surface) to bottom (base). Heights are to scale. Spring counts are stated for a 5ft king, the industry convention. Foam densities are the figures we specify to the factory in writing for every layer.
What happens when you order.
1. We make it
Your New Parent is made to order in Yorkshire in 10–14 days, with the build date on the label.
2. Two people deliver it
Flat, never rolled. Carried to the room you choose, unwrapped, placed on the base, packaging taken away. Old mattress collected if you asked.
3. 30 nights, then 10 years
If the feel is wrong after 30 nights we swap it within the range, in one visit. After that, the 10-year guarantee covers the build. Full terms.
The New Parent, answered.
Does it work with a bedside crib?
Yes. At 25 cm deep it sits at the right height for most side-sleeper cribs, and the firm edge means the mattress does not sag away from the crib where you attach it. Check your crib's stated mattress height range before ordering.
Can I buy a spare cover?
Yes. Spare zip-off covers are sold separately so one can be in the wash while the other is on the bed.
Is it hot?
It has more memory foam than our other builds, so it is warmer than The Hot Flush and cooler than a solid memory foam mattress, because the micro-springs and the CMHR layer let air move. If overheating is your main problem, choose The Hot Flush instead.
Why is there no tension choice?
The feel comes from the foam core, not a spring unit, so there is nothing to swap. It is a medium, and it stays a medium.

The best mattress for a bedside crib: height, edge, and the gap that matters
A bedside crib attaches to your bed and depends on your mattress being the right height with a firm edge. What the crib instructions mean, what mattress depth works, why a soft edge is the problem, and the safe-sleep rules that sit above all of it.
King or super king? The honest answer for couples, room by room
Thirty centimetres of width is the difference between a good night and a great one, and between a bed that fits the room and one that eats it. Dimensions, the room sizes that decide, stairs, bedding costs, and split tension.
Mattresses with washable covers: what "washable" actually means, and what it does not
A zip-off cover you can put in the machine is genuinely useful for parents, pets, and anyone who has ever had a bad night. What is washable and what is not, the fire-barrier question, how to wash it, and why you still need a protector.
Sharing a bed with a restless sleeper: what actually helps, in order
One of you turns forty times a night; the other counts them. The fixes that work, cheapest first: width, duvets, the mattress build that carries the least movement, and what to do when none of it is enough.
The best mattress for couples who move differently: motion transfer explained
One of you gets up at five, one of you turns over forty times a night, one of you is feeding a baby at three. Why some mattresses carry every movement across the bed, and which builds do not.
